A day of simple pleasures

Wednesday is Maisie's day off from pre-school and usually at least part of the day is taken up with running errands but yesterday I thought we'd jut stay at home and play together. We had such a lovely time. After taking Joe to school I suggested we play a floating and sinking game, so we got the washing up bowl and filled it with water which Maisie decided to colour purple using food colouring, then we went round the house looking for things to test out. I got her to try and predict whether they would float or sink before trying it out- which she was pretty good at, and she liked sorting the objects into 2 piles those that floated and those which sunk.

Next we had a go at making some little boats out of paper, i couldn't really remember how to do it but managed to make something that sort of worked- we decorated them and added our names as Maisie wanted to have a race. Unfortunately they weren't very successful as they got soggy too quickly- but then we talked about what would make a better boat and decided on a plastic lid which we added a sail to ( cocktail stick and piece of paper stuck into plasticine), this worked much better. Maisie had fun adding little figures to the boat, one at a time to see how many it would carry.

After tidying up we went outside for a while so she could have a bounce on the trampoline. We were really excited to see that the nest box Andy fixed to the end of the studio, at the weekend, is already being used. We watched a blue tit coming and going bringing greenery to line the nest, which was a lovely site, I'll have to try and get some photos.

The afternoon was spent in the kitchen baking together- we made shortbread, honey oatcakes and breadsticks- all of which went down well at tea time.
All in all a lovely day of simple pleasures.
