Fabric coil pot

Some time ago ( probably about 2 years ago now), I found this book at a craft fair at Westpoint, and just had to have it! There were so many things I wanted to have a go at, well I have finally had a go at making something inspired by the fantastic ideas in the book.
I love the 3D structures and vessels made from wrapped and coiled fabric such as the one above.
So I started by making lots of wrapped fabric "snakes" (Maisie's description), then sewing them together in a fairly random way. I didn't have a plan of what I was making, it was just a chance to experiment. It's turned into quite an organic shape, sort of reminds me of a squid!- at the moment I'm not sure whether to work on it further or just to leave it as a little trial piece.
Having had a play I decided to have a go at making a fabric bowl. Above is the start of the base.

And here's the finished piece!I'm really pleased with it for a first attempt, and I'll definitely have a go at making some more. It didn't take too much fabric, it's ideal for using up oddments, thereby reducing waste and great for recycling. I think they could make nice little presents perhaps filled with smellies/ homemade cakes/ biscuits?

Below I've scanned the instructions from the book which might be useful if you fancy having a go yourself.
