At the weekend we began turning a little corner of the garden into a pixie/ fairy dell. We've got quite a mature twisted willow tree , and beneath it we've left it a bit wild, so plants such as lemon balm, primroses and sweet majoram have self seeded there.
Joe's clay bug
Maisie and i made wire and bead dragonflies to hang in the tree. The Joe and Maisie made little clay faces on the tree, we did this at Occombe farm a few weeks ago, they loved it so much that i thought they could do the same at home. Obviously the leaves will die off but hopefully the faces will remain. Joe's clay face
We've got 2 stone goblins in the garden which i'm going to rehome under the tree and we've already got a big stone toadstool under there so it's all coming together.Apparently the curved piece on Maisie's face is a telephone!- that's just so typical of her, she's obsessed with phones.
I'd like to make some little pixie and fairy figures that they can play with and hide out there, ideally i'd like them to be weather -proof so they can be left out, but so far I've not worked out how to do this, if anyone has any ideas they'd be gratefully recieved. I'm wondering whether peg-doll type figures may work?

wow, that all sounds fab. I love those dragonflies, would love those hanging in my tree. Interesting to hear how long those faces stay on the tree, did you just you use normal clay?
when we did the clay faces at occombe farm it was normal clay . but we used some stuff andy had knocking around in the studio which is waxier, and i had to use the heat gun to warm it up to make it pliable for the kids to model with.
Hi!
SAw some interesting wooden spoon animal kits at the range the other day - could those be adapted to use as your figures? Small wooden spoons 33p! Not sure how to protect the whole thing from the weather though - but fun for another activity maybe?
